Hello all. Just a message to introduce myself, Stephen is my name and my website is www.pipeorgansirl.com which shows what I do etc.. My thanks to the other Stephen for his warm welcome to the club.

I had been a biker all my life, but at 58 and now a grandfather I just thought - ach! Downsized from a series of 1000cc bikes to 650cc a year ago. The renewal for insurance and tax came in and I noticed I had only put 150 miles on it for the whole year; just not interested in it anymore. So - I always admired Spitfires - never even sat in one let alone drive one, so I bought one from one of the admins of a Spitfire club in the UK, on the grounds it'd be well kept. I think it probably has. It has been in storage for many years, little used. Only discovered this morning that the tyres are 21 years old. They were not impressed in the garage!! Only got it last week and I LOVE the ole thing. And it's soooo damn beautiful to look at too! Hooked already :-) And mine will not be sitting in storage: things decay so badly that way. Mine will be garaged and if possible only driven when dry. I'll get a new set of tyres......but......those nice spoked wheels beckon. Where's the best place to buy a set? No plans for any big alterations otherwise. Probably try to eliminate the oil leaks and just get it running as sweetly as possible. I did rebuilt many engines in my youth so I'll learn as I go. Presume electronic ignition would be a good move (?).....so same question - where's the best place to buy a kit? And is the Haynes manual the best one to buy?

And the question of wheel and tyre sizes seems like a nightmare at a glance. What's the best set-up?

Eh......it's lovely to be part of a club for social reasons, but alas Sunday mornings are tied up for me - I'm a church organist and look after the music in Arklow every Sunday. St. Saviour's Church. Google it - it's just GORGEOUS! But I'll catch you all at some other event. But club membership is of course also good for technical assistance.....would any member be kind enough to look my car over for me and advise? I mean someone sharp with the mechanicals. I think it's fairly good but there are rattles and noises here and there that need assessing. I'd be very grateful, and of course, a few bottles of your favourite bevvy would be promptly forthcoming ;-)

And my most urgent question - what's the story with E10 petrol? Car has been converted to run on unleaded......but is E10 ok? I see the octane rating is lower, at 95, and the user manual states minimum 97. I only put €10 in in case I need to sort out something alternative.

Cheers, S.
