Turlough Hill

Turlough Hill power station is 50 years in operation this year.

I have spoken with relevant personnel and a tour is to be scheduled for the TCOC. I'm awaiting precise details on date and numbers permitted. Members interested need to put names on list and as usual it's on a first come first served basis

I hope to have the missing details within the next week

Thanks

Pat

  • Sounds cool, yes pls Pat.

  • Hi, John Hughes here, myself and Anne would be very interested in this trip . I worked on the inspection end of things on the turbines and the pipework but havent been back to see the completed project.

  • @Hi Pat - count me in. My latr uncle worked on the site doing tea and sambos for the construction workers. They ran an B&B on the road between the glendalogh turnoff and Turlough hill. Remember spending summers there and my auntie making tons of sandwiches 😀 - weather seemed warmer back then???

  • Yes please. Count me in.

Please include me on the list

My late Dad was on of the main Engineering Contractors on Turlough Hill and I had pictures as a kid at bottom of the man-made reservoir before it was filled and we walked down the watersheds to the turning rotors. Dad subsequently presented PJ Moriarty the Chairman of ESB with a ceremonial key to start the turbines for first time and generate power to the National Grid
