Where were you in the Big Snow, and what were you driving?
Self and my current lovely wife had been out with Michaels brother and his wife to be on the afternoon it started to snow, back to the home place for tea. Was driving my pride and joy 808ZH, Mk 4 Spitfire. We went to drop back Marjo home mid evening to find the snow waist high, no chance to drive. Tried a TRactor, no chance, snow too hi. So we walked the mile or so - easier said than done, took us couple hours with every step a lift the leg as high as but still very difficult to get thro. Eventually got back to Mar's home to find electricity gone, everyone asleep. There was no hope in me making it home.....I was waisted. However her mum, not realising just how bad the weather was said no way that bugger is sleeping here! Thankfully she relented. Got home next day. Rescued the poor Spit several days later when the lane was opened. The snow was higher than the Triumph. We had great fun with 808ZH, and I made the ultimate sacrifice in selling her to fund the engagement ring which got lost in the sand on Malahide island one drunken Junior Chamber bbq( never drink home brew!) we replaced it and are still married.......The year was 1982, 41 years ago......memories,eh!
ta to Michael for finding the photo.

Fantastic pic Bren, I was too young to remember back that far 😉
I love the action photo, also the tiny, very popular , small reg plate.
Paddy, what about the youthful looking good lookin driver..??
Heard about this photo but the description doesnt do it justice! Brilliant retro pic! Super spitfire v the snow
Being veryy sarcastic....don't mention Mondello!
Niall, you're on! Think we will need a lock-in, we probably have a scatter of mother-in-law stories between us.....lubrication may be needed to erase the pain.......!
Luke, I assume you are being sarcastic- they are bloody awful! With less grip on the rear tires cause of ice the rear wheels tend to tuck in ( the infamous swing axle) and once any power put thro the wheels, even moderate, the back of the car swings left or right, anywhere but straight! As the Spitfire couldn't get out I borrowed my sisters 850 Mini - absolute magic with fwd( remember the Monte Carlo rallies , Paddy Hopkirk?)
Cool photo...Spitfire's well known for their road holding in ice and snow!
Na, Niall - when one's future mother in law is fcukin one out into the horrible cold evening it's memorable as being THE ONLY BIG SNOW!
OK, that would make it a bit special alright🤣🤣. Remind me when we meet to tell you my best mother in law story, she was a lady and the story is clean and tidy just too long for here! Next Christmas party maybe🤣🤣
