A big thanks to Trish and Chris for hosting this morning's "Thursday's Technical Evening" but since it has migrated to a Saturday morning the refreshments have taken on a whole new meaning - sausage rolls (none of your Superquinn shite) made from basic ingredients by our fair Trish, along with fresh apple and rhubarb tart and to crown it all a smashing Carrot cake - yum yum, so if you learned nuttin about the elektrickery of how your engine starts you were well fed this morning, thanks again Trish Enough about that now, the reason we were there was to witness the first starting of the Cortina 1600 GT that Chris recently acquired, yes a 1969 specimen which I was told was rotten with rust but they must have been looking at a different car to the one in Chris's garage because according to Ken she'll tidy up nice and a coat of paint she'll be a very respectable car. Now the issue itself - engine turning over OK but not firing up, there was issues with the vacuum advance but Chris addressed that and sorted, so today installed electronic ignition in stead of points/condensor, this is where Luke donned the overalls and Niall Power arrived straight from the Cairnryan / Belfast Ferry professing his love of the simplicity of the Ford cross-flow engine there were digital meters and timing lights along with wire crimpers produced, and then just like a Tommy Cooper gag 'not like that - just like that' the engine burst into life - mission accomplished yeah elektrickery alright another successful morning and I had a very enjoyable TRip in my 6
