5. Recent EGM Issue
Please note that that to vote at TCOC meetings you must be a paid up member for either 2020 or 2021.
If you have not paid subs in either of these years please refrain from voting. And do remember that You must pay your 2022 subs before the Feb 2022 AGM to vote at the AGM.
Following the September EGM, a meeting was requested by a TCOC member with the committee to resolve that members concerns over issues raised at the EGM which resulted in the committee checking the validity of the voting at the EGM. I can now confidently state that 60 members were fully paid up in 2020 and that 2 new members also paid subs in 2021 so we have 62 members qualified to vote on club proposals this year. At the EGM 29 of the 32 people in attendance were fully paid up members so the committee deemed the voting at the EGM to be valid. The Member also raised concerns on the Financial Feasibility, The content and the Value of the Quarterly ‘Herald’ Magazine to the Club. To this end the Committee have decided that the decision to produce 2 further Heralds for 2021 as voted for at the EGM still stands. However, the future of the Herald for 2022 as raised by the member now needs to be voted on.
So, The Herald is once again up for debate. Whether it remains in its current glossy format posted to your door, as an Ezine on the TCOC website or a return to A photocopied newsletter, etc is up for consideration by the membership.
Whatever the outcome of the discussion and voting on the Heralds future, the costs associated with its publication must work within the Clubs budget.
Proposal to Amend the Herald Magazine to be voted on by the members at the TCOC Club Meeting 31st Oct 2021. Note : If you cannot attend the meeting on 31st Oct please send me your vote by text to Alan Quinn 087 6686336 before Friday 12noon 29th Oct stating your name and option you are voting for – either A,B, or C below
A. Cancel the publication of the Herald in its present high quality form and all of the associated printing / postage costs and reduce the TCOC Subs to €35p.a.
OR
B. Retain the annual €50p.a. subs and Retain the Herald in the current formatbut reduce the number of publications to 3 issues per year (April, August, December) at an annual cost to the TCOC of approx. €1800p.a. This allows the Club to function at a surplus of approx. €240 p.a. (Based on membership of 62 paid subs)
OR
C. Retain the annual €50p.a. subs and Retain the Herald in the current format but reduce the number of publications to 2 issues per year (June, December) at an annual cost to the TCOC of approx. €1200p.a. This allows the Club to function at a surplus of approx.. €840 p.a. (Based on membership of 62 paid subs)

STATEMENT FROM CHAIRMAN
While the resignation of longstanding member Bren Walls aka PiBren from the TCOC is regrettable it is entirely understandable (see Au Revoir TRoops) The committee was elected by the members and at all times endeavours to consider ALL members in the way it operates, it is unfortunate that neither myself or Luke will be present for the meeting on Sunday but Al Quinn will explain the circumstances and committees stance.
Bren Fitz
Chairman TCOC
I have to agree with Gerry we already voted on the magazine issue. There are a number of members that feel very strongly one way or the other regarding the mag. I understand and respect their point of view.
However we already voted on this and my opinion is we observe status quo on this issue until our agm.
We must remember too that this is a classic car club with a voluntary committee that give up their valuable time. We are all here for the enjoyment of classic cars and the friendships we have developed over the years.
So I will expect anyone that has questions or points to make at our next meeting to bear this in mind.
Again it is regrettable that Bren Walls has left the club . But I feel it would have been more helpful if Bren had have outlined his disision to do so. There has been prose and verse written on this issue but no reason why.
Rant over no excuses for bad grammar or spelling as I am only here for the cars and the crack. So lighten up lads and lady's and let's enjoy ourselves again 😉

The club magazine 'Herald' is the lifeblood of the club, especially for country members. It should not be under threat by a small amount of people ! I seem to remember quite recently voting at a meeting to keep it! So it should be left alone. My vote is gone in Again. Slainte G
Couldn't agree more Gerry, the Herald was voted on already, and that vote should be honoured and the outcome of that vote respected by all,
To all TCOC paid up members of 2020 or 2021, please remember to vote by text to me 0876686336 on the herald issue if you cannot vote in person at the club meeting this sunday 31st Oct.
Thanks
Alan Quinn. Tcoc sec.
Attention all voting members
The Herald, as a communications and indeed promotional vehicle of the TCOC has existed in various guises since the inception of the Club several decades ago. I have no doubt that The Herald will continue to exist, in some format, as a welcome Members' periodical. I was approached by the then Chairman 5 years ago to explore ways to raise the profile of the then existing newsletter format to a substantially higher level and to explore the logistics and costings of such a strategy.
Having scoped the project and approached a suitable printer I knew well, I negotiated a deal that involved 4 editions per year. This deal assumed that material is supplied in a particular format which in turn invoves a not inconsiderable amount of time for each edition. This arrangement has worked successfully over the last 5 years and the printer has not raised his charges since 2016.
Looking at the 3 options listed from the next Club year, may I offer the following:
Option 3 is most likely a non runner the the current glossy format.
I am not personally interested in producing a bi- annual review. I undertook to produce a quarterly periodical magazine. I have also stated on numerous occasions that I will only "facilitate" the production of the editions for as long as the majority of the members so wish! Whilst I can be replaced as editor at any time, I'm not sure another printer can be found to accommodate and work within our budgetary constraints. I have sought alternative quotes from another comparible printer and the costs are exactly double what we are currently paying. Having stated the above, I'm sure there are other ways to produce a Club publication and save monies. For an additional €15 over basic membership fee of €35, I would be of the view that to get 3 editions of The Herald per year that this would represent excellent value for money.
I'm reasonably confident that option 2 - producing 3 editions per year - will be acceptable by our current printer for 2022. As he is currently on holiday himself I will try to have this confirmed in time for confirmation at the meeting on Oct 31st. This option still leaves a surplus in the coffers after all other ongoing expenses are accounted for.
Just as a sidebar, coming from a communications background, I have no doubt whatsoever that The Herald as was briefed to me 5 years ago has served our members well and that going forward could be usefully employed as an image builder for the TCOC in any new membership building activities.
Option 3 may end up being a retrograde step in the future development and long term success of the TCOC.
Pat
I'm certainly looking forward to a good read Pat, The Herald is an important part of the clubs history and should be safeguarded,
