Hello all - This is my first post here and I’ve a lot to learn about the mechanics of cars, so bear with me.
I have a lovely 1973 Spitfire Mk IV that I’m having some difficulty starting.
One day it was running fine and the next it decided not start.
I observed the following:
The battery is fine.
The start motor is cranking.
There is fuel at the carb.
I checked the ignition coil and I’m getting a spark.
I put a spark tester on the distributor spark plug lead and cranked the engine - no spark.
Nothing from the lead from the ignition coil to distributor lead either.
Where should I look next - points? New leads?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Johnny, a good suggestion by Luke re electronic ign : Powerspark ign modules are cheap and easy to fit( Do not get the red and black wires connected up wrong way - will blow the module), available off their website. I think this is what you need, incl their std black coil, £58+ delivery. Also worth getting a distributor cap + red rotor, or why not go the whole hog and get a complete dizzy with module, new cap, rotor + coil @£113+ del? pibren
Get a electronic ignition set at fit it. Cut out a lot of issues. Cheap and easy to fit.
Thanks Luke.
Thanks for that Niall. Appreciate it. I'll check it out at my next opportunity. -JB
