And now for something completely different.
Oil Filters for the humble SC engione as fitted to Spits, etc.
Having tried a variety of filters over the years, there is a tendency, due to the angle and position of the filter, for oil to drain out of it overnight. This means that on starting up, there is no oil pressure until the filter fills up again. The consequences can be imagined.
Over the years, I have learned to crank the engine over with the ignition disconnected until the oil light goes out.
There is supposed to be an anti drain valve on the filter to prevent the damn thing emptying out. However a lot of after market oil filters either do not have one, or it is ineffective. Even Unipart filters can be guilty of this.
The best filter I have found so far is the Mann W713/14, which has two anti drain valves.
However, they are getting scarce now. I have bought the last two currently available from Consort.
Has anybody found a similarly effective filter?
