  • So met Michael at 8:47 only to find gates did not open until 9:30 - moral of the story check details on email sent from organisers, anyway plenty of time to make short journey to Malahide so did a bit of investigating in Michael's 'engine miss' so still in 'dogging carpark' when along came Joe O Farrell in the Saab Turbo and true to form Joe is a man that likes a sweet running engine so he rolls up the sleeves and logically goes through the fault finding and concludes the plug on No 4 cylinder is knackered. Phone call from Steve Gredly to say he's in Insomnia on Main Street having a coffee so we agreed to meet him after depositing the cars in Grand Hotel, Joe wasn't joining us as he wasn't booked in but he could have as Kevin Fitz had registered but had the better offer of a week in Spain so his place was up for grabs, any way it was Joe's birthday and he had other plans. A bit of faffing about up at the hotel before cars parked up when we evntually met up with Steve and Joe down in Insomnia for a birthday coffee and muffin - Happy Birthday Joe hope you had a good one!

On to the Show back at the Hotel, had a quick inspection of Steve's new Midnight Blue Merc said our goodbyes and settled in for the day - TR on the grass (usual spot for TCOC) and the BMW was up a bit towards the back gate used to exit the show area, so not together much with Michael throughout the day. Also on the grass further down from me was David Will (ex TCOC, member of the TR Register, but more noted for his membership of ARM in the IVVCC) with his TR4 looking resplendent in the somewhat sunny weather. Later on had a visit from Howie asking how are they all in "your lot", not too many of you here today! and then divulging that a lot of his cars were under covers and he was here in the day car - a city hopabout as he referred to it, more practical in current traffic, he also added that 'they' were not going to the IWE and the attraction was some later trip to Northern Spain.

Also had a visit from Stuart (ex TCOC - first a Stag 'lucky to get rid of it', then a TR7V8 'should never have sold it', then a Boxter, then a 911, and now a 2013 Cayenne and heavily involved in "Porsche Politics") was asking for everybody. Lots of interesting people passing by throughout the day, there was a man from Liverpool living here for more than 30 years who told me his abiding memory as a boy living in Speke of the mountains of half finished TR7's he could see from his bedroom window exposed to the elements and the men picketing outside the factory gates, then there was the guy who in his earlier career was working for Benner's garage in Tralee and the highlight of that job was when Mr Benner the garage owner, asked him to deliver a TR6 to a customer in Dublin and he said it had a great registration - SIN 9, and he was suitably impressed when I told him it was still around.

The fee to attend the show was €10 and you could have the 3 course dinner for a further €10, but lots of people had packed lunch / picnics, there were bumper crowds and the lions club were delighted, indeed one coffee truck outsie the show ran out of coffee at 13:30 and the show went on till 16:30, in fairness the good weather made the day and in my haste to get going in the morning I forgot my camera but got these few on the phone
