Dear Affiliated Club,
I am writing on behalf of the IVVCC to seek your support and the involvement of your members in either participating in existing events or organising new ones as part of Heritage Week 2025.
We are reaching out as part of a newly formed working group, established in 2024, focused on the preservation, promotion, and continued use of historic vehicles in Ireland. This group includes representatives from the IVVCC (Irish Veteran & Vintage Car Club), IVETA (Irish Vintage Engine & Tractor Association), IVS (Irish Vintage Society), IVVMCC (Irish Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle Club), Irish Vintage Scene, and other key stakeholders passionate about our shared heritage. We have convened twice last year and once so far this year, working collectively to raise awareness of the importance of historic vehicles as part of Ireland’s national heritage.
Attached you will find a letter providing more background on this initiative.
We believe it is vital that government representatives and the wider public recognise our organisations as custodians of historic vehicles — vehicles that are as much a part of our national heritage as historic buildings, monuments, artworks, and artifacts. We also encourage a shift in our own perspective: from thinking of these as simply "classic and vintage vehicles" to recognising them as cultural heritage assets.
To support this, we are asking for your help in organising and participating in Heritage Week events in 2025.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could review the attached letter with your club members and get back to us with details of your planned events by mid-May. This will allow us to compile a National List of events showcasing the role of historic vehicles in our cultural heritage.
Thank you in advance for your support in this important initiative.
Kind regards,
Martin Bourke
