Myself Simon Ted and Leon made it to Sallynoggin today.  Leon liked the squad car .

  • Excellent, Ken, what any self respecting Coupe needs to enhance its boot! Could be a look/see tech morning sometime? Happy New year, Ken. Bren

PS: Not from the two Triumph mad brothers in Blackrock, put a Sprint motor into their conv Vitesse? I went to Bolton St  with Joe, after six years I qualified as an Engineer( we were twinned with Trinity and achieved a BscEng from that erstwhile institution entitles me to vote there!)The dad was a doctor and drove a lovely BRG Sprint. The box fouled the chassis so they cut a bit of a lump out of it - she was fast and they could drive!

However t'was not all plain sailing - they used to service neighbours cars for a few Bob, all well until one forgot to add the vital ingredient- yep - OIL The hapless chap managed to get a mile up the road before she cried 'nuff! They rebuilt the motor, honour served. Jaysus, that's a blast from the past, I was driving 808ZH, which was a Mk4 1300cc, a bit of a wet lettuce in the performance dept - just as well the owner was a Stallion!!!!

I also remember fcuking Mad party there end of term........couldn't possibly divulge........

    • No, that was Pat mc Mullin I think? Anyway, this is a diffferent car and is a Dublin reg convertible. It raced in the UK and in the Phoenix Park in the late sixties and early seventies. He designed his own rear lower wishbones from front wishbones and rear uprights given greater stability and lower ride height.

It's in an old yard now, sadly rotting!!

    • Any idea what year it raced in the Park and I'm sure the Triumph Database would love to know the Reg.

    • 12341294652?profile=RESIZE_930xNot sure on the year but mid sixties, I am chasing a chap for info. It did race under 1300cc with great success but after complaints it was moved to the modified class where against large capacity engines it did not do well so stopped racing. It then went to the UK and did a few events. I think it raced for a year or two only. The owner just built it to see what he could do with a Herald, he wasn't from a car background at all, more engineering

      I let Darren know, XZC.

    • Thanks Ken I'll do a bit of research,Cheers.

I remember a Round Tail Spit racing in Mondello had a Hardtop on and the Roll Cage was built around the outside of the roof twas a very ugly Duckling.

  • Another find, 61 Herald Conv, ex race car. Very interesting treatment of rear drive shafts.
    Happy New Year
