***CAR MAINTENANCE COURSE TECHNICAL MORNINGS***

Club member Alan Egan has come up with the idea of putting on a series of basic car maintenance courses catering for club members that would like to get a bit more ‘hands on’ with their cars. The courses would centre around the basics of changing fuel/coolant hoses, checking wheel bearings, diagnosing basic ignition/electrical faults and other basic but common faults that could be easily identified and solved with minimal tools at the side of the road or driveway to avoid the need to call the dreaded breakdown service.

The idea would be that participants would come along to the course which will be similar to a club technical morning. Each participant would be instructed how to carry out certain repairs or to diagnose an 'unknown' fault on their own vehicle. Alan has kindly volunteered his free time to instruct participating members in these procedures. Realistically, 5 cars would be the maximum for one tutorial session. If there are any other members out there that would like to volunteer as instructors, then we could possibly take more participants per tutorial session. I think this is a great idea and a chance for members to pick up some invaluable do it yourself car maintenance skills from a skilled mechanic with years worth of varied experience. The idea is to run these courses on a selection of Saturday mornings for a few hours over the period of a few months. The Course going ahead however, depends on two things.

  1. Either a participating member or non participating member would be kind enough to provide a flat area big enough for at least 5 cars for these technical mornings.
  2. We can get more volunteer instructors to facilitate more participants.

It all depends on the interest level from members too. I would encourage members that are reluctant to go at the spanners to avail of these courses. They present a great opportunity to get familiar with the workings of your car and how to tackle problems that can arise with them.

**Volunteer instructors welcome. Give me a shout if this is you.

** If anybody is willing to provide some space for this to happen please contact me on 0864013724. It would be very much appreciated.

Finally, if these courses interest you, please reply below or alternatively contact me directly on the number above.

Again, Many thanks to Alan for this generous offer and willingness to give up his free time to teach. Says all you need to know about the folks in the TCOC.

Regards,

Paddy.
