Well, Brexit is upon us, and a deal has been agreed.
Does anybody have any idea what way orderiing parts from our favourite UK suppliers will pan out?
After Jan 1st no UK VAT will be charged on what will now be exports to the EU. Instead our own crowd will want their VAT take, usually collected by the delivery agent. In the case of An Post, they currently charge a €10 handling fee for this.
However, under the backstop, goods sent to Northern Ireland are to be treated as intra EU deliveries. (Or am I wrong?) However, Parcel Motel are currently refusing to take ROI bound stuff at their depot in Newtownabbey. Likewise AddressPal are saying you can no longer use their virtual address after Jan 1st.(read their websites)
Finally, going to Stoneleigh and coming back with a boot load of stuff. Apparently the value limit for no duty is €430. We are returning to the old pre 1992 days when it was up to a snoopy customs man to decide if the pile of oily crap in your boot is worth less than the limit. (if you get stopped)
My father, when importing buses from the UK, used to take all the seats out and make sure the bus looked awful. (filthy, oil all over engine) he would then declare it for Scrap or Repair and get charged a lower rate of duty.
Fun times ahead, I think.

After all, he hasn't bought one this year
Nothing definitive at the moment but there are 2 schools of thought.
you will no longer be charged vat in Uk but you would have to pay Irish vat on importation. Not sure how this would effect private sales where vat is not charged in the UK on the transaction. One possibility is that you would still have to pay vat on importation.
the other thought is that because we have an agreement for free movement of goods without tariffs we may be able to purchase classic cars privately and may be able to register these for the old rate of €200.
only time will tell and until someone brings a car in we won't know for sure. As soon as anyone finds out for sure they should post here to inform the rest of us.
Only if you get a jab up the Kyper pass
